• Week 3: Ocean-Atmosphere Coupling

    In this week, we will review the general circulation of the atmosphere to follow the focus of this module: Ocean-Atmosphere Coupling.

      Go through the resources. Remember there are three resources: two from National Geographic Education with texts, images, and videos, and the third is Chapter 10 from your text book. Even though there is no grade points associated, I strongly encourage you to work on two practice links from MindTap listed under Resource Section. 

      All the assignment and activities listed under Assignment and Activities section will be graded. 

      Assignment questions: due by 11:59 pm on Wednesday. (total points: 15)

      Discussion: total points 25 initial post due by 11:59 pm on Friday 13th.

    • Week 3 Resources

      1. Read the following resource provided by National Geographic Education. The text on all four sections, the background info, questions, fast facts, and vocabulary and the exemplary video all effectively summarize the ocean currents and climate. Reading/watching  through all of these will be immensely helpful for you to prepare yourself in reading your textbook chapter 10. Resource

      2. Your text book, and especially this Chapter 10, mentions Coriolis effect several times. The article below by National Geographic Education describes the same effect using very simple examples. Read the article and watch videos to gain insight on what causes the effect and what actually are the effects in the context of ocean-atmosphere coupling. Don't miss to watch the two videos, both of these provide insightful examples to explain Coriolis effect. 

      3. Read chapter 10 of your text book. While you read, watch videos provided there in various sections in the MindTap. The links for Fill in the Blank and Matching (provided below) are the practices provided by MindTap as study guide resources. Practice those both while you read the text.
