Humanistic study moves across the disciplines of art, philosophy, literature, and music. This course begins with a review of renaissance humanism and explores the Reformation and the Catholic Church's response to it. The age of despots is examined in the Baroque and Neoclassical styles leading to the Enlightenment and the Age of Reason. Mention is made of the democratic revolutions that occurred in the United States, France, and England. Impressionism, Expressionism, Surrealism and other modern styles are presented as they appear in the art and literature of the 20th and 21st centuries. Prerequisite: ENGL110. (4,0) 4
